PNAfrica Executive Director Participates in 2025 OGP Global Summit in Spain
The Executive Director of the Parliamentary Network Africa (PNAfrica), Mr. Sammy Obeng, joined hundreds of representatives from governments, civil society, and policy institutions worldwide at the 2025 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.
Now in its ninth edition, the Summit provides a global platform for advancing open government values, promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.
Mr. Obeng spoke at the Open Parliament Day on Tuesday, October 6, 2025, on the topic “Transparency and Access to Parliamentary Information.” He is also scheduled to join a High-Level Global Dialogue on Thursday, October 9, themed “Towards an Open State.”

The Open Parliament Day 2025, hosted by the Basque Parliament and jointly organised with the Congress of Deputies, the Open Parliament Global Network (OPeN), and the OGP, brought together parliamentarians and civil society actors to share best practices and explore ways to strengthen openness, transparency, and integrity in parliaments worldwide.
Proceedings began with an inaugural session attended by high-level representatives of the Congress of Deputies, the Basque Parliament, the OGP, and the OPeN Network. This was followed by three thematic panels reflecting the key pillars of Open Parliament — transparency and access to information, citizen participation, and ethics and integrity — featuring parliamentarians and civil society leaders who shared insights and best practices from their respective contexts.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Obeng emphasised the importance of collaboration between parliaments and civil society in promoting accountability. “Open Parliament is not just about transparency—it is about building trust and ensuring citizens are active participants in governance,” he said.
Through its participation, PNAfrica reaffirms its commitment to advancing the Open Parliament agenda across Africa by supporting legislatures to become more transparent, inclusive, and responsive to citizens.
