Peter O’Neill has been re-elected as prime minister of Papua New Guinea after the country’s Parliament convened for the first time since national elections last month.
O’Neill, as had been expected, was reinstated as country leader – a post he has held since 2011 – after receiving 60 votes.
Voting in the election started on 24 June and ended on 8 July. Counting, however, dragged on beyond the deadline date of 24 July.
